Jane Siberry at the ARK
If anybody should feel accomplished in their life as art and art as life life, it would be Jane Siberry- at least in my opinion. Toronto born musician Jane Siberry has been courting our hearts and minds with her songwriting since I can remember. A fan of her in my 1980's and 90's life span, I was elated to see her now live in Ann Arbor. She is releasing a new CD entitle Ulysses Purse next week on February 24, 2016. I left the show pretty inspired by her women empowering messa

Marianas Trench | Fillmore Detroit
This pose took me back to my Iggy Pop days!

Marianas Trench | Fillmore Detroit
So fun to be able to cover Vancouver, Canada's Mariana's Trench at the Fillmore Detroit. NYC's Mainland opened and then Marianas came on with cuts from their EP entitled OneLove. Lots of major Trenchies- fans out in the crowd- so much enthusiasm and so many different ages in the crowd. #Onelove

Tanya Tagaq | Nanook of the North
Inuit Throat singing right here in Ann Arbor! Pretty amazing and also kind of fun in a weird way to see people's reactions who have never seen that before or don't know much about the cultural arts in that area of the world. So grateful I was able to cover this performance and after my shots were done I really was able to see the film and music in tandem. Like Tanya said 'a few people sometimes walk out, but if you walk out then you don't deserve to see my gifts anyways, so h

Tanya Tagaq w Nanook of the North UMS
The University Musical Society performance by Polaris Prize winning artist Tanya Tagaq as a live soundtrack to the Nanook of the North Film was sold out. The concert is part of the Renegade artist lecture and concert series. After hearing Tanya's introduction and stories about her ancestors I will never complain about a Starbucks coffee not being correctly made ever again, lol! #Firstworldproblems!

City and Colour
Well it was Christmas in July, well late January, because I finally got to shoot Dallas Green and City and Colour! A fan for many years and with so many songs that just grab my heartstrings, I have been pining away to get assigned to cover them. Did it! So happy- they are just perfectionists on the stage. Crazy good.

39th Ann Arbor Folk Festival
Richard Thompson was the epitome of the showman at the festival. From his wepage here is his bio: "Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Richard Thompson is also one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting on both sides of the Atlantic - from the Americana Music Association in Nashville to Britain’s BBC Awards as well as the prestigious Ivor Novello. 39th Ann Arbor Folk Festival
Next up was The Oh Hellos. Wow there is definately NO saying goodbye to this band by me! I am a new fan, it was my first time seeing them- they hail from Texas I guess. I would highly recommend checking them out live. They will be coming back to the ARK in a month or so!

39th Ann Arbor Folk Festival
Here are a few samples from Day One of the festival! Here are Norma Jane Struthers & David Mayfield having a little fun. Seems that David was not letting Norma speak without his permission. And then he tried to speak for her. Of course she grabbed his guitar pick and bit right back. The good news is she held her ground and eventually her lovely voice was heard by all of us. We are all now in love with both of them.

39th Ann Arbor Folk Festival
I am really lucky because I was able to land the assignment to cover the 39th Ann Arbor Fokl Festival this year. This two day festival which is fundraiser for the ARK, has a heritage, history and music lineage that is pretty mind blowing. This years two day line up provided a new take on the festival which was to ''mix it up'' a bit. Instead of dividing the days into the first day being more non traditional and the 2nd day being super straight folk- this year the planning te
